The idea of a free Virtual Private Server (VPS) is popular among those who want to host a website or run an application, but do not want to invest any of their own money into the project. SolVPS is one of the first results when you search Google for a “free Windows VPS”. We signed up for the free Windows VPS that SolVPS offers, tested the site, did the research and now we can offer you an honest review of SolVPS’s offerings.
Is SolVPS A Scam?
There’s a lot of websites claiming to offer free VPS services. The truth is, most of these sites are simply scams. Most websites offering a free VPS do not actually offer any kind of VPS hosting. Instead, all they do is have you fill out a signup form, and then sell this information to other companies which will then use it to target you for their advertisements. If you sign up for a free VPS scam, your email box will be flooded with spam email for cheap and “free” VPS companies.
Generally, if something is too good to be true, it is.
SolVPS is different than these types of scam VPS sites. SolVPS actually offers real hosting and real VPS instances. They are not a scam site. They have a number of different VPS plans. So, SolVPS itself is not a scam company.
Is A SolVPS Free VPS actually Free?
We cannot actually give you any information about the free VPS that SolVPS claims to offer. This is because SolVPS does not actually provide free VPS instances! While SolVPS is a real hosting company, their free VPS plan is pure marketing.
The SolVPS Free Windows VPS plan is similar to scam websites in that they ask you to sign up for their service, but they never actually provide you with a free VPS. What happens when you sign up for one of these free plans is that you open a ticket with SolVPS support. This ticket will stay open and unanswered for a few days or a few weeks, and then it will be closed. SolVPS will take the information you gave them in that ticket and might try to send you ads or even call you trying to get you to buy one of their paid plans. They never actually provision anyone with a free plan.
It’s a dirty marketing trick used to get people to sign up for their service. They don’t even bother replying to the ticket you open to get the free VPS. So in the end, no, you are not getting a free VPS from SolVPS.
You are welcome to sign up for one of their free plans, but they will not reply to you, and might instead use your information to try to get you to sign up to one of their paid plans.
I signed up for their free VPS plan, saw that a ticket was open and then patiently waited. My free VPS never came and my ticket was closed without an answer. I tried to contact the company about this and at first I was ignored. Eventually I got a reply telling me to sign up for one of their paid plans.
To offer Windows VPS plans, a company must pay a licensing fee to Microsoft. No one is going to pay Microsoft a fee to provide you with a free product. A free Windows VPS is too good to be true.
What Is A Good SolVPS Alternative?
SolVPS is using scamy and scummy marketing tactics to get people to sign up for their service. They claim to offer a free VPS, but do not actually have any such plan.
There are almost no real free VPS sites. This is because any free VPS provider will be the target of spammers, virus makers, phishers and other Internet lowlifes. These people will destroy the reputation of any VPS provider. The huge headaches that come with providing a free VPS are just not worth it.
Instead of looking for a free VPS, take a look at the low end of the VPS market. There are some really cheap VPS plans available from some very good VPS hosts. They start at less than 75 cents a month. If you are looking for a cheap Windows VPS, Personally I use and recommend dependable VirMach hosting.
